An analysis of the UK's proposed data protection reforms

In September, the Department for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport released its consultation proposing changes to the UK.'s data protection laws. Some of these changes are minor clarifications intended to resolve uncertainties in the EU GDPR's drafting, while others are fundamental reforms to the operation of our national data protection laws and the obligations and protections that they bring. In this article, the IAPP summarise and offer a colour-coding scale for assessing the severity of the main changes proposed in the consultation document. 

In a related post, the Open Rights Group calls on organisations and individuals to respond to the consultation, letting them know that the GDPR "must be preserved."
