Are EU AI Act sandboxes viable without GDPR leniency?

Data protection authorities (DPAs) across Europe are establishing sandboxes to enable companies to experiment with their algorithms ahead of the anticipated EU Artificial Intelligence Act. However, some companies are reticent to reveal their systems to DPAs without leniency from potential EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) violations during experimentation. The IAPP hosted a Linkedin Live session on 12 December to explore the benefits and possible pitfalls of sandboxes. This article summarises the details of that discussion.
