California children's code receives final passage, awaits enactment

The California State Legislature has moved to address children's online safety concerns with the final passage of Assembly Bill 2273, the California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act. The bill now awaits enactment by Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., after unanimously passing the State Assembly and Senate. If enacted, the bill contains unique privacy requirements to protect children aged 17 and under. The bill will come into force on 1 January 2024.
