China’s privacy law now in effect

China’s new Personal Information Protection Law has taken effect on the 1st November, two months since its adoption. Companies are now seeking to figure out how to comply while regulators work to answer any remaining questions. “PIPL is coming into effect after a remarkably short period,” Morrison & Foerster Partner Paul McKenzie said. “Companies and regulators alike are scrambling to figure out what should be done in what order to get ready … It’s a challenge.” In this article, the IAPP write about what companies need to know as the law takes effect.
