The keynote presentations on the last day of the IAPP Data Protection Intensive: UK 2023 included several leading industry figures.
During the first session, Secretary of State for the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology Michelle Donelan shared her perspective on the Data Protection and Digital Information (No.2) Bill (DPDIB). Donelan said: "Five years since the GDPR was first introduced, we have an opportunity to learn the lessons of data protection around the world and correct the elements that are not working for us as a nation."
Then during the second session, IAPP Research and Insights Director Joe Jones moderated an armchair conversation between NOYB Honorary Chair Max Schrems with former Information Commissioner and now current Baker McKenzie International Advisor Elizabeth Denham. The discussion covered a range of areas, including enforcement and the one-stop-shop, international data transfers, and the UK data protection reforms.
