EU considers cancelling trade and data transfer talks with US

The discussions between the EU and US over data transfers have hit an unexpected snag, and it has little to do with the subject at hand. EU officials are considering bowing out of the planned EU-US Trade and Technology Council meeting on 29th September in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in protest of the rift started by the US-UK submarine contract with Australia. A break in talks would impact the timeline for a potential agreement on a replacement for the shuttered EU-US Privacy Shield Program. Politico also reports on the story, taking China into consideration.
