EU GDPR dispute resolution mechanism and the DPC-Meta decision

Enforcement of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) began with a bang on 4 January as the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) adopted final decisions, which focused on the use of performing a contract as a legal basis for targeted advertising by Meta's Facebook and Instagram platforms. While the decisions are not yet public, the IAPP examines the DPC's press release with an eye toward what it tells us about the decisions' potential substance and how the data protection authority navigated the GDPR's dispute resolution mechanism.
