Digital transformation in the healthcare sector through innovations in electronic patient records, health apps and wearables, connected medical devices and online consultations generates an ever-increasing amount of patient data and presents a wide range of opportunities. The challenge is using this data for medical research without clashing with the provisions of applicable data protection laws, particularly consent requirements.
