At a time when cost and the environmental impact of energy are at an all-time high, a Spanish digital researcher, Joana Moll, has calculated the carbon footprint of browsing cookies of the 1 million most-visited websites. The Carbolytics project provides a visual representation of the advertising technology infrastructure and energy usage. The IAPP interviewed Joana Moll, who discussed the underreported carbon cost of the adtech industry.
