Roe v Wade reversal sends shockwaves through privacy world

The US Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and a woman's constitutional right to abortion has sent shockwaves through American society. The move raises several questions concerning civil and reproductive rights but also carries privacy implications. An op-ed by Information Accountability Foundation Senior Foundation Strategist Lynn Goldstein calls the reversal flatly undermines the totality of the implied right to privacy.

Meanwhile, MIT Technology Review reports that Big Tech companies haven't yet defined their stance on how or if they will respond to requests by US law enforcement for personal data related to abortions. The publication reached out to Google, Meta, Reddit, TikTok and Twitter, seeking information on their notices around such data sharing in the wake of the reversal. Some companies referred to existing notices on disclosures, while others did not comment on the matter.
