Car salesman fined £1,500 for illegally selling customer records

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has announced that a former sales consultant, Alexander Doré, has been fined for unlawfully retaining over 3,600 pieces of customer records taken from Leaseline Vehicle Management Ltd and selling the data to competitor companies. The personal data breach was discovered in November 2022 and investigated by the ICO, leading to Doré pleading guilty to unlawfully obtaining and selling data, a violation of section 170 of the Data Protection Act 2018. Doré was ordered to pay a fine of £1,200 and £300 in costs at St Albans Crown Court on Tuesday, 17 September.
