ICO continues to work on updating Journalism code

Maintaining the right balance between the right to privacy and freedom of expression, including a free press, is a fundamental part of our democracy.  The ICO is working on updating its guidance to the media and developing a new code of practice in line with requirements under section 124 of the Data Protection Act (2018). The ICO wants the new code to be as practical and helpful as possible, in order to deal with modern issues affecting journalism today.
