ICO discusses the next steps for data ethics

Following up on a blog written in 2019 on the overlap between GDPR and data ethics, Simon McDougall, Executive Director for Technology and Innovation at the ICO, looks at how the pandemic has thrown this debate into sharper focus. The blog unveils the results of a recent survey on ethical considerations in the decision-making process. The survey sought feedback from organisations on experiences with and applications of data ethics, focusing on current practices, supporting organisational structures, decision-making processes, and compliance programs. McDougall noted COVID-19 put data ethics "into sharper focus, with ongoing innovation around personal data usage at every stage of the crisis."
