The ICO has issued £495,000 in fines to a number of high profile businesses in relation to their marketing practices.
The fines include:
- £200,000 to We Buy Any Car for sending 191.4 million emails and 3.6 million text messages to individuals. The ICO confirmed that the company had incorrectly relied upon the soft opt-in.
- £150,000 to Saga Services Ltd for sending 128,895,718 unsolicited direct marketing messages without valid consent.
- £75,000 to Saga Personal Finance for sending 28,523,745 unsolicited direct marketing messages without valid consent.
- £70,000 to SportsDirect.com Retail Ltd for sending 2,565,513 direct marketing messages.
