The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has released a comprehensive set of recommendations to help AI developers and providers ensure that the information rights of job seekers are protected.
Recruiters increasingly rely on AI tools to streamline the process of finding and assessing the suitability of candidates. However, following an audit of AI recruitment providers and developers, the ICO made around 300 recommendations to limit negative impacts on job seekers. The recommendations include:
- Ensuring that personal data is processed fairly.
- Minimising the amount of information collected.
- Clearly communicating to candidates how their data will be used.
The ICO also highlighted a series of questions organisations should consider before acquiring an AI tool for recruitment. These include:
- Have you completed a DPIA?
- What is your lawful basis for processing personal information?
- Have you documented responsibilities and set clear processing instructions?
- Have you checked the provider has mitigated bias?
- Is the AI tool being used transparently?
- How will you limit unnecessary processing?
