In a LinkedIn post, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has published the findings of a comprehensive survey of more than 2,000 organisations. This survey included 20 in-depth interviews and is part of a three-year research project to gain deeper insights into the UK data controller landscape. The ICO will use the results of the survey to inform future strategic and regulatory activities, as well as to support organisations in fulfilling their data protection responsibilities and ensure the protection of individuals' personal information.
Among the key findings, the survey revealed that 32% of organisations view data protection laws as an enabler that positively influences their core activities compared with 24% of organisations that report data protection laws place constraints on their core activities to some extent.
The survey also revealed that 49% of organisations identified cyber security as a significant challenge, while 49% cited a lack of expertise and staff training as reasons for not adopting new technologies.
The ICO also published detailed findings on its website (see main article), along with the data summary tables, a raw data file, a technical report, and a qualitative infographic.
