ICO publishes transparency in health and social care guidance

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has published its new guidance for health and social care organisations to ensure they are transparent with people on their use of personal information. The healthcare sector regularly deals with sensitive information related to people's health, often shared with trusted practitioners under confidentiality. The ICO guidance aims to help organisations comprehend the concept of transparency, determine suitable levels of transparency, and offer practical advice on developing appropriate transparency information. The release of the guidance follows a public consultation in November 2023.
