The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has responded to the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee (DCMS) Committee’s inquiry on gambling regulation. In its response, the ICO concluded that while it supports industry operators' objectives to prevent gambling harms, it advises data-sharing methods be "proportionate and necessary to achieve their objectives and have data protection built into the design and implementation." Given that many of these initiatives involve large volumes of personal data, the ICO warns steps to comply with data protection law must be put in place.
