ICO takes action against 5 public authorities over FOI failings

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has announced that it has taken action against five public authorities for failing to meet their obligations under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act. 

Sussex Police and South Yorkshire Police both received enforcement notices, while the Department of Education (DfE)Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) have all been given practice recommendations. 

The action comes as the Information Commissioner John Edwards published an open letter calling for senior leaders within public organisations to take their transparency and access to information obligations seriously.
