Information Commissioner John Edwards has emphasised the importance of protecting the public in the digital age while championing innovation and privacy-respectful practices in a keynote speech at the IAPP 2024 Data Protection Intensive Conference in London.
The Commissioner highlighted how technology-focused this year's conference was and the overriding prevalence of artificial intelligence (AI). He also spoke about children's privacy, advertising technology, and biometrics and how these areas can be used responsibly for public benefit, innovation, and growth.
Mr Edwards addressed how the ICO has been working on providing clarity and guidance on the use of emerging technologies like AI and biometrics through consultations and detailed guidance. The Commissioner also mentioned the ICO's ongoing work on children's privacy and promoting user control and choice regarding cookies.
