Speech by John Edwards at the UK Ambassador Residence in Brussels

John Edwards gave his first speech as the UK's Information Commissioner to an audience full of representatives from European data protection authorities, academia and civil society at the UK Ambassador's residence in Brussels. Speaking about the troubling times on the continent with the war in Ukraine and the painful effects of Brexit negotiations still being felt, Mr Edwards reasserted his desire to work with his European colleagues and maintain a high standard of privacy and data protection. He raised the issue of the impending legal reforms in the UK and the importance of avoiding unnecessary divergence. He also spoke about the need for a collective approach to international data flows cooperating where coordinated enforcement action is required.
