Supporting public organisations in getting information access right

Since the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) established its ICO25 strategic objectives to promote openness, transparency, and accountability in public organisations, it has been engaging in the community to understand where and how it needs to offer support to public authorities in performing their statutory duties and prevent breaches of access to information legislation. With the publication of the FOI Upstream regulation report, the ICO has identified key themes to guide its approach, including producing new tools, guidance, and training for the regulated community, increasing engagement with the FOI community, promoting ease of access for requesters, and supporting compliance with proactive disclosure. The ICO's goal is to improve transparency and make it easier for people to access information already available, removing the need to make a request.
