Data Guardian warns against giving police access to patient data

The National Data Guardian for England, Dr Nicola Byrne, has warned the government's plans to allow data sharing between the NHS bodies police would "erode trust and confidence" for healthcare providers. Dr Nicola Byrne said she has raised several concerns with the government about certain clauses in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill. The bill is due to go through the House of Lords this month and will force NHS bodies to share data with police in order to prevent and reduce serious violence in local areas.
