Ruling on harassment of Manchester terror attack victims

An article posted by data protection specialist Jon Baines on his personal blog discussed the deeply concerning legal case involving Martin Hibbert and his daughter Eve, both of whom sustained severe injuries in the 2017 Manchester Arena attack. Following the tragedy, they became targets of Richard Hall, a conspiracy theorist who ludicrously alleged that the attack was a hoax. Martin and Eve initiated legal action against Hall for harassment and data protection violations. 

In a detailed ruling, Mrs Justice Steyn DBE ruled in their favour on the harassment claim, confirming Hall's liability. Baines adds that while the data protection claim may not hold significant weight, Steyn's comments on the shortcomings of both parties are noteworthy for future cases.
