Half of UK businesses experience cyber-skills shortages

According to the Cybersecurity skills in the UK labour market 2021 report sponsored by the DCMS, 50% of UK businesses have reported cyber-skills gaps within the last 12-months, with diversity seriously lacking in most organisations. Around 680,000 businesses have staff in charge of cybersecurity who lack the confidence to carry out basic tasks laid out in the government’s best practice Cyber Essentials framework, such as storing or transferring personal data, setting up configured firewalls and detecting and removing malware. In other news, 66% of large companies were attacked last year, with the pandemic identified as a significant factor.
