Insider threat behind more than half of data security incidents

A new research paper by Forrester reveals that 70% of organisations in the EMEA region have not implemented a strategy to deal with insider threats, even though employees have directly or indirectly caused most data security incidents over the past 12-months. The report found that insider threats caused 59% of incidents impacting special category data in the past 12 months. The reasons for not prioritising insider risk were budget (39%) and internal expertise (38%), not viewing employees as a major threat (29%), and no executive sponsorship (33%).
