Home Office conducts facial recognition trials at UK ports

iProov, a leading provider of biometric identity verification technology, has participated in a UK Home Office trial from December 2024 to February 2025, focused on enhancing border security and efficiency at UK maritime ports. The trials, involving four suppliers, had two main objectives:

The initiative reflects a growing global trend among governments to automate border control processes in response to increasing passenger volumes, heightened security needs, and a desire for improved passenger experiences. The trials explored the potential of technologies like e-gates, biometric kiosks, contactless solutions, and advanced passenger information systems, which are already prevalent at airports and land borders.
