Questions have been raised about whether Google's handling of right-to-be-forgotten requests is open to abuse. The internet search company had removed links relating to the 2010 conviction of a man convicted of running six brothels in Dublin. Google then reinstated the search results after the Irish Independent questioned the decision. Legal affairs editor Shane Phelan said, “Search engine operators such as Google ultimately must conduct a balancing exercise when dealing with ‘right to be forgotten’ requests. However, there is no external oversight of the process."
