ITI publishes recommendations for transparency in AI systems

The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) has published a policy document outlining its Principles for Enabling Transparency of AI Systems. The paper is intended to inform policymakers how "transparency is a critical part of developing accountable and trustworthy (artificial intelligence)." The ITI describes transparency in AI as being clear about how a specific system is built, how it operates, and how it functions. The paper also describes a key recommendation for policymakers is to draft legislation that ensures the public can understand the AI system decision making, and that provides the ability to challenge or review decisions.
