Meta enters into ICO regulatory sandbox with PET project

On Monday, 29 July 2024, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) announced that Meta had entered the ICO Regulatory Sandbox programme to develop its privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs). The project uses a Secure Multiparty Computation (MPC) system to enable accurate measurement of online advertisements while ensuring user privacy. By entering the ICO's Sandbox, Meta can consider the impact that data protection laws have on its nascent technology. 

The ICO said the results will be published once the project is concluded.
