The National Data Guardian for Health and Social Care, Dr Nicola Byrne, has published her opinion on the government's new health strategy to reform access to GP patient data. Dr Byrne read the proposals trying to ascertain whether the focus is to provide access to data in order to innovate or to engage the public in the spirit of better trust and openness. She said the "importance of public trust needed a greater emphasis, and so was pleased by the strong focus it was given in the published version." In addition, Dr Byrne wrote it was important that the government had admitted mistakes were made with the General Practice Data for Research and Planning (GPDPR) and had outlined its strategy to rebuild trust.
