NCSC to scan the UK for vulnerabilities

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has announced a new initiative to gather data about how vulnerable the UK is to cyber-attacks. The NCSC believes that the intelligence will help to enhance cyber resilience against future attacks. The scheme will scan internet-accessible systems hosted in the UK for known vulnerabilities. The NCSC can use this data-driven view to understand the country's exposure and track remediation over time. In a statement, the NCSC said, "We design our requests to collect the smallest amount of technical information required to validate the presence/version and/or vulnerability of a piece of software. We also design requests to limit the amount of personal data within the response."
