£13m ICO monetary penalties still unpaid

A new analysis by Spotlight has revealed the extent of unpaid fines issued by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). More than 25% of the 160 monetary penalties issued by the ICO since 2017 remain outstanding. The total unpaid amount is almost £13m. A similar study in 2021 identified that £5m ICO monetary penalties were unpaid, while an FOI release from 2020 revealed the ICO was struggling to collect fines from companies.
