Pokemon Go data being used to create Large Geospatial Model

In a recent blog post, Niantic, the creator of Pokémon Go and Ingress, announced its plan to develop a new artificial intelligence model called the Large Geospatial Model (LGM). The company revealed that its technology will leverage data gathered from its millions of players to enhance how computers understand and navigate the physical world. The LGM is similar to Large Language Models (LLMs), which generate natural language by analysing vast troves of text data. According to Niantic, the LGM will empower machines to not only recognise and comprehend physical spaces but also to engage with them in innovative ways. The technology is predicted to be a key feature for future developments of augmented reality glasses, robotics and autonomous systems.
