NOYB files GDPR complaint against BeReal for not accepting no means no

Austrian privacy and digital rights advocacy group NOYB filed a complaint with the French data protection authority (CNIL) against the social media platform BeReal. The complaint claims that the company uses deceptive design practices (dark patterns) to coerce users into giving consent for the use of their personal data for advertising purposes. Users who choose to decline are subsequently pressured into changing their minds with further daily requests. NOYB argues that such tactics are a violation of Article 4(11) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) because consent given under these circumstances is not freely given.
