A lawyer from New Zealand and the countries current serving privacy commissioner has been tipped to be the new head of the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), according to a report in The Sunday Times(£). A vocal critic of social media who once called Facebook "morally bankrupt pathological liars", John Edwards is the government's preferred choice. "If he is confirmed in the UK role, Edwards will be able to finally levy the huge fines he considers are necessary to toe the line." An independent panel tapped Edwards to replace current Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham, whose tenure at the ICO ends later this year. London Stock Exchange Group Chief Privacy Officer Vivienne Artz, who currently serves on the IAPP's board of directors, has also been deemed a possible candidate for the position.
