The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) Expert Group on AI Futures has published a comprehensive report on the potential risks, benefits, and necessary policy measures about the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI).

Benefits

Recognising the pressing need for policymakers to navigate AI-induced changes, the report outlines ten key benefits of AI, including enhancements in scientific progress, productivity gains, and advanced forecasting capabilities.

Risks

The report identifies ten critical risks, such as the potential for sophisticated cyberattacks, the spread of disinformation and manipulation that threaten democratic processes, fraud, the concentration of power, and increased inequality.

Policy Priorities

In order to mitigate these challenges, the OECD recommends ten policy priorities to establish clearer liability frameworks, including defining red lines for AI use, investing in AI safety measures, and implementing robust risk management strategies.

In related news, the OECD published a detailed article addressing how governments can enhance the AI Safety Institute Network’s role in global AI governance.
