Government targets anonymity with Online Safety Bill

The government has announced two new additions to the Online Safety Bill to crackdown on anonymity and legal but harmful content, which the ORG believe will make the online world less safe for marginalised groups and survivors of abuse. The government claims abuse is 'thought' to be linked to anonymity. Yet, in reality, it is carried out by people who believe they are entitled to intimidate, threaten and abuse others online. Even still, police already have powers capable of stripping away anonymity by linking to their IP addresses.
