The Open Rights Group has posted a blog article criticising the government's approach to regulating artificial intelligence (AI). The ORG points to the policy paper published by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS): Establishing a pro-innovation approach to regulating AI, calling it a failure due to its sector-specific approach to regulating AI, which it claims will leave the technology largely unregulated. Furthermore, in the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill, the government again proposes to scrap the right to a human review of Automated Decision Making (ADM), despite earlier agreeing not to. And while the government speaks of growth and innovation, without the robust ethical and legal obligations that a rights-based framework promotes, this kind of non-binding and non-enforceable regulation will achieve the opposite.
