The Open Rights Group and European Digital Rights have entered a joint submission to the ICO about the issues surrounding the use of biometric data. The submission covers a range of areas where they believe biometric data will be adopted, including mass surveillance, identity checks and fraud detection, age estimation, biometric categorisation, emotion recognition, and travel. The submission also answers questions about how technology using biometric data will differ from existing solutions, as well as the types of biometric data new technologies are likely to capture and for what purpose or benefit to society.
