CJEU asked to define scope of 'legitimate interests' under GDPR

An Amsterdam district court has asked the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) to outline the circumstances where a purely commercial interest can be considered a 'legitimate interest' under the EU General Data Protection Regulation. While the Dutch case relates to a dispute between the data protection authority and a sports association, depending on what the CJEU decides could have significantly broader implications.
