English privacy notice results in Dutch GDPR fine for TikTok

TikTok, the Chinese social media app, has been fined €750,000 by the data protection authority in the Netherlands after its privacy notice written in English was deemed insufficient for Dutch Children to understand. In a statement, the DPA said TikTok “failed to provide an adequate explanation of how the app collects, processes and uses personal data”, in breach of data protection law. The decision could have broad repercussions for how organisations present privacy information where children are involved.
