Spain creates law to test AI systems in EU-first regulatory sandbox

Businesses can test products and services powered by artificial intelligence (AI) in a new regulatory sandbox provided under Spanish law, the first of its kind linked to the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). The EU is encouraging member states to launch AI regulatory sandboxes to create controlled AI testing environments against the requirements of the AI Act. Spain is currently leading this effort. Eligibility criteria must be met to participate in the sandbox, which is backed by the European Commission and is expected to inform regulatory compliance and the development of new technical guidance.
