Data brokers and consumer advocacy groups react to ADPPA

Data brokers increased lobbying spending by 11% in Q2 2022 compared to the same period last year, showing heightened industry attention to and efforts toward the proposed American Data Privacy and Protection Act (ADPPA). In related news, an open letter signed by 48 consumer advocacy groups asks US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to consider and pass the ADPPA. The letter highlights the many civil rights protections the bill adds for US consumers and that preemption provisions are stronger than current state laws, including the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA).
