Digital rights organisations and businesses seek targeted ads ban

Ahead of the European Parliament's expected vote next week on the Digital Services Act, a number of digital rights organisations and business leaders are pushing for an outright ban on targeted advertising online. In an open letter, the group calls for targeted ads using people's search histories, social media activity, and online purchases to be banned. As an alternative, they propose that platforms use freely given information and data gleaned from algorithms to target advertising.
