Meta, the owner of Facebook, is ramping up its team of lawyers and lobbyists in preparation for a fresh wave of regulatory action in the UK and EU. In recent weeks, Meta has published a series of job openings for policy and legal experts in London. The news comes as the UK prepares its long-awaited Online Safety Bill and the EU readies its Digital Services Act.
The social media company is also recruiting a privacy policy manager to "monitor and analyse privacy policy issues affecting Facebook in the UK and the EU" and to "engage and build relationships with relevant civil servants, policymakers, and NGOs." The successful applicant will require a minimum of three years experience working for the UK government, EU institutions, regulators or a relevant trade association.
