WhatsApp could face €50m GDPR fine

WhatsApp could face fines of up to €50m for alleged violations of the EU GDPR. The Data Protection Commission in Ireland found that the messaging application failed to adhere to the transparency requirements under the GDPR. The penalty is under consultation with other DPAs in the EU after the Irish DPC submitted its findings in December. A final decision is expected later this year, which may include a requirement for WhatsApp to change its data practices.
