PI sends open letter to ICO and MPS Commissioner of PimEyes use

Privacy International (PI), in association with several UK-based non-governmental organisations (NGOs), have raised concerns about the Metropolitan Police Service's (MPS) use of the facial recognition search engine PimEyes. The report highlights an investigation in May revealing the MPS's computers accessed PimEyes over 2,300 times in a three-month period, with no official records or safeguards in place. PI has now sent open letters to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and the Commissioner of the MPS, calling for an investigation into a potential breach of data protection law. 

The action is part of a broader PI campaign challenging the expansion of facial recognition technology by UK retailers.
