Tribunal agrees that Meta's GIPHY acquisition harms competition

Following an appeal by Meta Platforms, the Competition Appeal Tribunal upheld the Competition and Markets Authority's assessment last November that Meta's purchase of GIPHY will damage rivals, consumers and advertisers. The CMA concluded the purchase would deny or limit other platforms from accessing Giphy while simultaneously requiring more user data to access Giphy GIFs.
