Study links gaps in cybersecurity practices to higher insurance claims

Research conducted by Gallagher Re has revealed actionable insights for insurers and enterprise organisations concerning the effectiveness of their security controls. The findings reveal a clear correlation between cybersecurity performance, the likelihood of cyber incidents and corresponding insurance claims. The analysis identified several key predictors of cybersecurity risk and claims, including the size of an organisation's cyber footprint in terms of the number of managed IP addresses and the use of certain technology products.

In addition, the research highlights the critical role of basic cyber hygiene, such as timely patching, proper HTTP header usage, and effective endpoint management, which directly correlate with a decrease in cyber incidents.
